Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Smithfield had an population of 12,028 people. This is an increase of 26.68% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 65.65% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Smithfield had a population of 9,495 people (or 8.43% of the total population of Cache County). This makes Smithfield the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Smithfield represents 0.34% of the total population of Utah (which has 2,763,885 people), making it the state's 53rd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 9,495 people, the population of Smithfield increased 30.77% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 7,261 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Smithfield was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Smithfield post office opened in 1864.
