Time Zone: The communities of Stanley County are split between two time zones. Some communities are located in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and they observe daylight saving time. The other communities are located in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and they observe daylight saving time.

The community of Fort Pierre is the Seat for Stanley County.

Stanley County was founded in 1873.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Stanley had a population of 2,792 people. This is an increase of 0.72% since the last Census (which gave a population of 2,772 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Stanley represented 0.37% of the total population of South Dakota, making it the state's 53rd most populous county (out of 66 counties).
