At the time of the 2010 Census, Butler had a population of 13,757 people (which is 7.48% of the total population of Butler County). This makes Butler the county's most populous community.

The population of Butler represents 0.11% of the population of Pennsylvania (which has 12,702,379 people), making it the state's 45th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 13,757 people, the population of Butler decreased 9.02% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 15,121 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Butler was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Butler post office opened in 1805.

We also found Butler in the book titled U.S. Post Offices (Oct. 1846).
