Camden County was founded in 1844 and was created by taking area from GloucesterCounty.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Camden had a population of 517,879 people. This is an increase of 1.76% since the last Census (which gave a population of 508,932 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Camden represented 6.05% of the total population of New Jersey, making it the state's 8th most populous county (out of 21 counties).
