At the time of the 2010 Census, Hattiesburg had a population of 45,989 people (or 61.37% of the total population of Forrest County). This makes Hattiesburg the county's most populous community.

The population of Hattiesburg represents 1.55% of the population of Mississippi (which has 2,967,297 people), making it the state's 4th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 45,989 people, the population of Hattiesburg increased 2.7% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 44,779 people).
