The population of Cowarts represents 0.04% of the population of Alabama (which has 4,779,736 people), making it the state's 191st most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 1,871 people, the population of Cowarts increased 21.02% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 1,546 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Cowarts was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Cowarts post office opened in 1880.

We also found Cowarts on a map titled Rand McNally Map of Alabama (1911).
