At the time of the 2010 Census, Hurricane had a population of 6,284 people (which is 11.33% of the total population of Putnam County). This makes Hurricane the county's most populous community.

The population of Hurricane represents 0.34% of the population of West Virginia (which has 1,852,994 people), making it the state's 22nd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 6,284 people, the population of Hurricane increased 20.34% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 5,222 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Hurricane was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Hurricane post office opened in 1882.

We also found Hurricane in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
