The community of Grantsville is the Seat for Calhoun County.

Calhoun County was founded in 1856 and was created by taking area from Gilmer County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Calhoun had a population of 7,077 people. This is a decrease of 7.21% since the last Census (which gave a population of 7,627 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Calhoun represented 0.41% of the total population of West Virginia.
