At the time of the 2010 Census, Sturgeon Bay had a population of 9,144 people (which is 32.91% of the total population of Door County). This makes Sturgeon Bay the county's most populous community.

The population of Sturgeon Bay represents 0.16% of the total population of Wisconsin (which has 5,686,986 people), making it the state's 100th most populous community.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Sturgeon Bay was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Sturgeon Bay post office opened in 1855.
