At the time of the 2010 Census, Montello had a population of 1,495 people (which is 9.71% of the total population of Marquette County). This makes Montello the county's most populous community.

The population of Montello represents 0.03% of the population of Wisconsin (which has 5,686,986 people), making it the state's 582nd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 1,495 people, the population of Montello increased 7.02% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 1,397 people).

We originally found mention of Montello in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Montello was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<5>

From that list, the Montello post office opened in 1850.

We also found Montello in the book titled Table of U.S. Post Offices in the United States (Jan. 1851).
