While we don't have a date for the founding of Hurley, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1884.

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Hurley had an population of 1,428 people. This is a decrease of 7.69% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 21.45% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Hurley had a population of 1,547 people (which is 26.15% of the total population of Iron County). This makes Hurley the county's most populous community.

The population of Hurley represents 0.03% of the population of Wisconsin (which has 5,686,986 people), making it the state's 562nd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 1,547 people, the population of Hurley decreased 14.91% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 1,818 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Hurley was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Hurley post office opened in 1884.

We also found Hurley in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
