At the time of the 2010 Census, Holmen had a population of 9,005 people (which is 7.86% of the total population of La Crosse County). This makes Holmen the county's 3rd most populous community.

The population of Holmen represents 0.16% of the total population of Wisconsin (which has 5,686,986 people), making it the state's 104th most populous community.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Holmen was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Holmen post office opened in 1875.

We also found Holmen in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
