Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Altoona had an population of 7,860 people. This is an increase of 17.21% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 17.35% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Altoona had a population of 6,706 people (or 6.79% of the total population of Eau Claire County). This makes Altoona the county's 3rd most populous community.

The population of Altoona represents 0.12% of the population of Wisconsin (which has 5,686,986 people), making it the state's 143rd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 6,706 people, the population of Altoona has remained roughly the same as the 2000 Census (which had a count of 6,698 people).

We originally found mention of Altoona in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Altoona was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Altoona post office opened in 1882.

We also found Altoona in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
