At the time of the 2010 Census, Hoquiam had a population of 8,726 people (which is 11.99% of the total population of Grays Harbor County). This makes Hoquiam the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Hoquiam represents 0.13% of the population of Washington (which has 6,724,540 people), making it the state's 88th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 8,726 people, the population of Hoquiam decreased 4.08% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 9,097 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Hoquiam was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Hoquiam post office opened in 1867.

We also found Hoquiam in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
