At the time of the 2010 Census, Covington had a population of 17,575 people. This makes Covington the county's 20th most populous community.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Covington was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Covington post office opened in 1891.
