At the time of the 2010 Census, Burlington had a population of 42,417 people (which is 27.1% of the total population of Chittenden County). This makes Burlington the county's most populous community.

The population of Burlington represents 6.78% of the population of Vermont (which has 625,741 people), making it the state's most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 42,417 people, the population of Burlington increased 9.07% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 38,889 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Burlington was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Burlington post office opened in 1792.
