At the time of the 2010 Census, Tappahannock had a population of 2,375 people (or 21.3% of the total population of Essex County). This makes Tappahannock the county's most populous community.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Tappahannock was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Tappahannock post office opened in 1792.

We also found Tappahannock in the book titled U.S. Post Offices (1803).
