At the time of the 2010 Census, Courtland had a population of 1,284 people (or 6.91% of the total population of Southampton County). This makes Courtland the county's most populous community.

We originally found mention of Courtland in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Courtland was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Courtland post office opened in 1888.

We also found Courtland in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
