Using the Census estimates for 2006^<1>, Hanover had a population of 98,983 people. This is an increase of 14.67% since the 2000 Census (which gave a population of 86,320 people).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Hanover represented 1.22% of the total population of Virginia, making it the state's 18th most populous county.
