At the time of the 2010 Census, Clintwood had a population of 1,414 people (which is 8.89% of the total population of Dickenson County). This makes Clintwood the county's most populous community.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Clintwood was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Clintwood post office opened in 1880.

We also found Clintwood in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
