At the time of the 2010 Census, Chatham had a population of 1,269 people. This makes Chatham the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Chatham represents 0.02% of the total population of Virginia (which has 8,001,024 people), making it the state's 125th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 1,269 people, the population of Chatham decreased 5.16% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 1,338 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Chatham was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Chatham post office opened in 1876.

We also found Chatham in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
