Various Identification CodesDuring an older effort, federal agencies worked together to create a set of codes that could be shared and this resulted in the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS Document 55-3). FIPS codes have been assigned to all counties and states. In addition, FIPS codes have been assigned to most (but not all) communities. The State and County codes related to Abbot: State Code: 51 (Virginia) County Code: 45 (Craig County) Since the County FIPS code can be repeated in other States, it's necessary to combine the State and County FIPS codes to uniquely identify Craig County (ie- 51/45). The FIPS Place code of '00100' has been assigned to Abbot. As with the County FIPS code, the Place FIPS code can be repeated in other States. It's necessary to combine the State and Place FIPS codes to uniquely identify Abbot (ie- 51/00100).
For statistical purposes, the US Census Bureau has divided the country into four Regions. Abbot is located in Region #3 (the South Region).
