At the time of the 2010 Census, Hondo had a population of 8,803 people (or 19.13% of the total population of Medina County). This makes Hondo the county's most populous community.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Hondo was in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).

We also found Hondo mentioned on a train schedule titled Southern Pacific Railroad Time Tables (August 1903).
