Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Hidalgo had an population of 14,142 people. This is an increase of 26.29% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 93.14% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Hidalgo had a population of 11,198 people. This makes Hidalgo the county's 11th most populous community.

The population of Hidalgo represents 0.04% of the total population of Texas (which has 25,145,561 people), making it the state's 201st most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 11,198 people, the population of Hidalgo increased 52.94% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 7,322 people).
