Polk County was founded in 1846 and was created by taking area from Liberty County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Polk had a population of 51,254 people. This is an increase of 12.86% since the last Census (which gave a population of 45,413 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Polk represented 0.18% of the total population of Texas.
