Jones County was founded in 1854. Jones was created by taking area from Bexar and Bosque Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Jones had a population of 19,867 people. This is a decrease of 1.66% since the last Census (which gave a population of 20,202 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Jones represented 0.08% of the total population of Texas.
