Duval County was founded in 1858. Duval was created by taking area from Live Oak, Nueces and Starr Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Duval had a population of 11,139 people. This is a decrease of 5.46% since the last Census (which gave a population of 11,782 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Duval represented 0.05% of the total population of Texas.
