Cameron County was founded in 1848 and was created by taking area from Nueces County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Cameron had a population of 422,649 people. This is an increase of 4.04% since the last Census (which gave a population of 406,220 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Cameron represented 1.62% of the total population of Texas.
