At the time of the 2010 Census, Brownwood had a population of 19,288 people (or 50.62% of the total population of Brown County). This makes Brownwood the county's most populous community.

The population of Brownwood represents 0.08% of the population of Texas (which has 25,145,561 people), making it the state's 125th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 19,288 people, the population of Brownwood increased 2.52% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 18,813 people).
