Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Smyrna had an population of 51,579 people. This is an increase of 29.03% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 101.72% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Smyrna had a population of 39,974 people (which is 15.22% of the total population of Rutherford County). This makes Smyrna the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Smyrna represents 0.63% of the total population of Tennessee (which has 6,346,105 people), making it the state's 15th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 39,974 people, the population of Smyrna increased 56.34% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 25,569 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Smyrna was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Smyrna post office opened in 1851.
