While we don't have a date for the founding of Sardis, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1875.

From the  Census Estimates for 2019, Sardis has a population of 399 people<3> (see below for details).

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Sardis had an population of 399 people. This is an increase of 4.72% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 10.34% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Sardis had a population of 381 people. This makes Sardis the county's 2nd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 381 people, the population of Sardis decreased 14.38% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 445 people).

We originally found mention of Sardis in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Sardis was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Sardis post office opened in 1875.

We also found Sardis on a map titled Rand McNally Map of Tennessee (1888).
