Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Oakland had an population of 8,323 people. This is an increase of 25.67% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 550.74% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Oakland had a population of 6,623 people (which is 17.24% of the total population of Fayette County). This makes Oakland the county's most populous community.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Oakland was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Oakland post office opened in 1837.

We also found Oakland in the book titled U.S. Post Offices (Oct. 1846).
