The town of Erwin is located in Unicoi County<1> and is the County Seat for Unicoi County.


The location of Erwin has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<2>


While we don't have a date for the founding of Erwin, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was on a map dated 1888.

From the  Census Estimates for 2019, Erwin has a population of 5,921 people<3> (see below for details).

Erwin is 1,730 feet [527 m] above sea level.<4>.

Time Zone: Erwin lies in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Erwin had an population of 5,921 people. This is a decrease of 2.89% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 5.54% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Erwin had a population of 6,097 people (which is 33.29% of the total population of Unicoi County). This makes Erwin the county's most populous community.

The population of Erwin represents 0.1% of the total population of Tennessee (which has 6,346,105 people), making it the state's 85th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 6,097 people, the population of Erwin increased 8.68% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 5,610 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Erwin was on a map titled Map of Tennessee (from Rand McNally, 1888).

We also found Erwin in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
