Scott County was founded in 1849. Scott was created by taking area from Anderson, Campbell, Fentress and Morgan Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Scott had a population of 22,102 people. This is a decrease of 0.57% since the last Census (which gave a population of 22,228 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Scott represented 0.35% of the total population of Tennessee.
