Montgomery County was founded in 1796 and was created by taking area from  County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Montgomery had a population of 209,807 people. This is an increase of 21.75% since the last Census (which gave a population of 172,331 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Montgomery represented 2.72% of the total population of Tennessee.
