Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Tea had an population of 6,052 people. This is an increase of 59.01% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 247.42% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Tea had a population of 3,806 people (which is 8.49% of the total population of Lincoln County). This makes Tea the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Tea represents 0.47% of the total population of South Dakota (which has 814,180 people), making it the state's 25th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 3,806 people, the population of Tea increased 118.48% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 1,742 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Tea was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Tea post office opened in 1894.
