While we don't have a date for the founding of Summit, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was in a book dated 1895.

Population Details ...

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Summit had an population of 292 people. This is an increase of 1.39% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 3.91% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Summit had a population of 288 people. This makes Summit the county's 4th most populous community.

The population of Summit represents 0.04% of the population of South Dakota (which has 814,180 people), making it the state's 209th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 288 people, the population of Summit increased 2.49% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 281 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Summit was in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
