Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Oacoma had an population of 471 people. This is an increase of 4.43% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 20.77% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Oacoma had a population of 451 people (which is 12.01% of the total population of Lyman County). This makes Oacoma the county's 3rd most populous community.

The population of Oacoma represents 0.06% of the population of South Dakota (which has 814,180 people), making it the state's 168th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 451 people, the population of Oacoma increased 15.64% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 390 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Oacoma was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Oacoma post office opened in 1890.

We also found Oacoma in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
