The location of Lemmon has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<2>


While we don't have a date for the founding of Lemmon, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was on a map dated 1937.

From the  Census Estimates for 2019, Lemmon has a population of 1,160 people<3> (see below for details).

Lemmon is 2,560 feet [780 m] above sea level.<4> In other words, the elevation of Lemmon is about ½ mile above sea level.

Time Zone: Lemmon lies in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time

Note: If you travel south from Lemmon, you will leave Mountain Time and cross into the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT).

Population Details ...

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Lemmon had an population of 1,160 people. This is a decrease of 5.46% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 17.02% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Lemmon had a population of 1,227 people (which is 41.15% of the total population of Perkins County). This makes Lemmon the county's most populous community.

The population of Lemmon represents 0.15% of the population of South Dakota (which has 814,180 people), making it the state's 78th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 1,227 people, the population of Lemmon decreased 12.23% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 1,398 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Lemmon was on a map titled Map of South Dakota (from Rand McNally, 1937).
