With a 2010 count of 59 people, the population of Lane has remained roughly the same as the 2000 Census (which had a count of 59 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Lane was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Lane post office opened in 1903.

We also found Lane on a map titled Shell Oil Road Map for South Dakota (1949).
