Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Hosmer had an population of 187 people. This is a decrease of 10.1% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 34.84% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Hosmer had a population of 208 people (which is 5.11% of the total population of Edmunds County). This makes Hosmer the county's 4th most populous community.

The population of Hosmer represents 0.03% of the population of South Dakota (which has 814,180 people), making it the state's 239th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 208 people, the population of Hosmer decreased 27.53% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 287 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Hosmer was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Hosmer post office opened in 1887.

We also found Hosmer in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
