At the time of the 2010 Census, Highmore had a population of 795 people (which is 55.99% of the total population of Hyde County). This makes Highmore the county's most populous community.

The population of Highmore represents 0.1% of the total population of South Dakota (which has 814,180 people), making it the state's 104th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 795 people, the population of Highmore decreased 6.58% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 851 people).

We originally found mention of Highmore in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Highmore was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Highmore post office opened in 1882.

We also found Highmore in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
