Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Gregory had an population of 1,241 people. This is a decrease of 4.17% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 7.53% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Gregory had a population of 1,295 people (which is 30.32% of the total population of Gregory County). This makes Gregory the county's most populous community.

The population of Gregory represents 0.16% of the population of South Dakota (which has 814,180 people), making it the state's 72nd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 1,295 people, the population of Gregory decreased 3.5% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 1,342 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Gregory was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Gregory post office opened in 1904.
