The city of Gettysburg is located in Potter County<1> and is the County Seat for Potter County.


The location of Gettysburg has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<2>


While we don't have a date for the founding of Gettysburg, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was in a book dated 1895.

From the  Census Estimates for 2019, Gettysburg has a population of 1,079 people<4> (see below for details).

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Gettysburg had an population of 1,079 people. This is a decrease of 7.14% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 20.19% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Gettysburg had a population of 1,162 people (or 49.89% of the total population of Potter County). This makes Gettysburg the county's most populous community.

The population of Gettysburg represents 0.14% of the population of South Dakota (which has 814,180 people), making it the state's 81st most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 1,162 people, the population of Gettysburg decreased 14.05% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 1,352 people).
