The population of Florence represents 0.05% of the total population of South Dakota (which has 814,180 people), making it the state's 190th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 374 people, the population of Florence increased 25.08% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 299 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Florence was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Florence post office opened in 1906.
