Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Crooks had an population of 1,334 people. This is an increase of 5.12% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 55.3% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Crooks had a population of 1,269 people. This makes Crooks the county's 5th most populous community.

The population of Crooks represents 0.16% of the total population of South Dakota (which has 814,180 people), making it the state's 75th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 1,269 people, the population of Crooks increased 47.73% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 859 people).

We originally found mention of Crooks in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Crooks was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Crooks post office opened in 1904.

We also found Crooks on a map titled Shell Oil Road Map for South Dakota (1949).
