At the time of the 2010 Census, Belle Fourche had a population of 5,594 people (or 55.33% of the total population of Butte County). This makes Belle Fourche the county's most populous community.

The population of Belle Fourche represents 0.69% of the population of South Dakota (which has 814,180 people), making it the state's 21st most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 5,594 people, the population of Belle Fourche increased 22.54% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 4,565 people).
