At the time of the 2010 Census, Baltic had a population of 1,089 people. This makes Baltic the county's 7th most populous community.

The population of Baltic represents 0.13% of the total population of South Dakota (which has 814,180 people), making it the state's 84th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 1,089 people, the population of Baltic increased 34.28% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 811 people).

We originally found mention of Baltic in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Baltic was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Baltic post office opened in 1889.

We also found Baltic in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
