At the time of the 2010 Census, Cranston had a population of 80,387 people (or 12.83% of the total population of Providence County). This makes Cranston the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Cranston represents 7.64% of the population of Rhode Island (which has 1,052,567 people), making it the state's 3rd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 80,387 people, the population of Cranston increased 1.41% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 79,269 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Cranston was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<5>

From that list, the Cranston post office opened in 1893.
