At the time of the 2010 Census, Somerset had a population of 6,277 people (or 8.07% of the total population of Somerset County). This makes Somerset the county's most populous community.

The population of Somerset represents 0.05% of the population of Pennsylvania (which has 12,702,379 people), making it the state's 141st most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 6,277 people, the population of Somerset decreased 7.17% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 6,762 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Somerset was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Somerset post office opened in 1797.
